Meet G.U.S.

While surfing the blog-o-sphere recently (hate calling it that) I found a link to a site, called "G.U.S." What is G.U.S. you ask? G.U.S. stands for Great Useful Stuff. Basically an organizers dream. Here are some of my favorites from their online catalog of goodies.

Purse Essentials:

Two-Sided Cord Organizer: I'm a sucker for labels
Kids Pet Care Kit- Dog:

Collapsible Linen Closet from Kangaroom:

Have any of you stumbled onto any good sites lately? Please share with the class.

His Closet

Who doesn't love a good before-and-after on a closet? I, for one, love them. When we moved into our 1960s era house our closets were more than lacking they were suffering. They were suffering from an ailment that I like to call, Underutilized Space Syndrome (USS). All of our bedroom closets are standard six foot reach-ins. They all looked very similar to this on move-in day:

For a girl who spends the better part of her days organizing other people's closets and homes this would just not do. Off to The Container Store (aka. Heaven on Earth) to get custom Elfa closet designs! We started by reconfiguring the two master closets and the nursery closet. Sorry guests, your closet will have to wait.

Here is what my Elfa designer and I came up with for the Hubs closet:

First things first, we had to tear out the existing closet components and make-ready the walls for our brand new Elfa closet. Such an improvement already!

From there it was just a half-dozen screws, placement and hanging of shelves and we were finished. Just to demonstrate how easy it can be, especially after a little practice, I hung the entire closet by myself. Nothing beats surprising your hub with some finely tuned organization. Buh-bye USS!

If you need some help with your closet, pantry, laundry room, garage, etc. just give me a shout! I can happily help from anywhere thanks to the interwebs and Skype.

Happy organizing!

Out of the Closet

Whether they're big or small nothing can beat a beautifully organized and outfitted closet. A place for everything and everything in its place. What could be better?

I have a philosophy that when your surroundings are organized you can lead a calmer life. No time is wasted in the morning looking for that favorite, yet elusive, sweater. Categorizing clothing by color and style will also help get you out the door faster.

My own closet will get out of hand every now and again but I do my best to wrangle it in every month. Keeping a sack of clothes to be sold at a consignment shop is key to controlling the clutter. For each new article of clothing that comes into my closet an older piece must leave. I only keep a set number of hangers (I am in love with these!) in my closet and will not buy more. It really keeps me in check when shopping. No empty hanger= no new top.

If you're still not convinced take a sec to admire the following closets and tell me that you wouldn't be a happy camper seeing your clothes laid out in such style.

You can find boot hangers like these at The Container Store. Brilliant. Keeps them off the floor and from starting to slouch.
