Garage Makeover

Can you park both of your cars in your garage? One car? Be honest, Jesus is listening...

My folks were able to park both of their vehicles in their small two-car garage but after seeing all of the stuff that was really in there I have no idea how they did it. BF and I surprised my dad with a birthday before and after of his garage. I will let the photos speak for themselves.

DIY: Headboard

My poor bed has been headless for nearly two and a half months. That all ended yesterday when I finally assembled all of the parts for my homemade headboard! Here is how it all went down...

After measuring our bed (queen-size) I determined the dimensions that I wanted our headboard to be. 62" w 72" h After that I purchased upholstery foam and batting. Then I decided to save a little dough on fabric by picking up an inexpensive linen curtain panel from Ikea (it came with two panels, the second one I used to recover the bench at the end of the bed). After all of that it was off to the big "Orange" store for wood. From there it's just like recovering a dining room chair.

Step one: staple the foam to the board

They cut the wood for me at the store and all we needed was some plywood and three 1x2's. All I needed at home was room to work and a staple gun. If only I had a holster for my staple gun...that would be awesome.

Step two: staple the batting over the foam and onto the board

Step three: staple the fabric over the batting/foam
Step four: screw the three 1x2s to the back of the headboard

Now for the big reveal...

Ta da! What do ya'll think?

Inspirational Tuesday

While at West Elm last week inspiration smacked me in the head. Now let me tell you this, we are not allowed to drill, nail or otherwise touch the ceilings in our apartment.

Mmm...concrete. However, BF has figured out a way to hang things without traditional hole-inducing fasteners...c-clamps!

With this new discovery I want to attempt to create either or both of the West Elm inspirations. On a smaller scale, I assure you What do ya'll think?

In a month...

Stuff can happen in just one month. For instance, it has been exactly one month since I last posted. Sorry! I have been a bit busy. BF and I have moved back from the West Indies and have taken up residence in a kickin' loft apartment in downtown Dallas. It was originally built in 1926 and was Republic Bank for years until it became cool-kid lofts. (I am definitely not cool enough to live here but I'm having a blast decorating.)

The fun of decorating this very industrial space has been never ending. BF and I sold most of our furniture in Washington so we were left with a big need to do some dumpster diving. We decided up front that the couch would be our big purchase and that we wouldn't grab it off a curb somewhere in East Dallas (that's how I found BF's desk though!). We snagged a great mid-century influenced sofa at my new favorite furniture store, I.O. Metro. I got a great deal and it is a great piece.

PS - Happy Independence Day! Now go and try to stick to something safe and boring like BlackCats or Sparklers. Roman Candles scare the snot out of me.

But I will get to all of that in the next few days. We have so much to catch up on, friends! There have been moves, 10 year reunions, adorable babies and holidays since we last chatted. Please stay tuned I promise I will provide stories - some funny, some just funny to me.

Whataburger

BF and I have made a trip down to Corpus Christi, TX. Not only is it pretty it is the home of the first Whataburger. Whataburger, indeed.

We even had ourselves an excursion out to the ever popular Spring Break destination, Padre Island. The island wasn't anything like I expected. It was far better.

Next time you want a beach party all you have to do is drive 8 hours south of Dallas and you're there.
